Tweeting it like it is

April 13, 2010 at 6:07 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

New to Twitter, I am learning the ropes to tweeting.
Goal: Get as many people to follow me as possible
Step 1: Follow as many people as possible. This includes people who have nothing to do with my cause, who I will eventual stop following
Step 2: Follow everyone that follow someone who follows me in order to have them reciprocate the follow
Have I lost you yet?
Step 3: Retweet random information I find in order to entice new followers
Step 4: I’m not really sure. Take over the communications world? When I find out, I’ll let you know

I think communication is a complicated issue and most people are intimidated by it. That is why many people opt to just send jokes to their friends in e-mails as opposed to sending a personal message. Even when someone sends a personal message others are slow to respond and find it stressful. In spite of advanced ways to communicate people choose more and more to be impersonal.

Bored one, I am not sure if it is intimidation or laziness. It is much easier to merely hit the forward button than compose an original message. Whether it is a time-management issue or not knowing what to say, people have lost the art of composing.

I’m not sure about any of these steps, particularly 1 and 3.

What’s the purpose of following as many people as possible who have nothing to do with your cause or interests? To acquire them as a follower? What’s the point of having disingenuous followers?

For step 3, I’m not sure retweeting random information will entice followers. I’d suggest it would have the opposite effect.

I like the first half of step 2. I try to find people who I follow, who they follow, and so on to find interesting people. But I think it’s too much to assume they’ll follow you back.

I understand you points, dbbradle, but this post was just a first step. I will post a follow up soon. Stay tuned!
